Four Things Worth Getting Right Early

Get these right and a surprising amount of the rest becomes easier.
01

Your Celebrant

Choose someone whose personality, communication and ceremony style feel right when you actually talk to them.

02

Your Vows

Write to your person, not the room. Specific beats impressive every single time.

03

Your Timeline

Protect breathing room around meals, photos and speeches. Weddings have a habit of moving a little.

Your Budget

Compare what is included, not just the number at the bottom of the quote.

CEREMONY

Make It Sound Like You

Start with the feeling you want in the room, then keep the traditions that mean something and bin the ones that don’t.

The ceremony should feel like the two of you, not like somebody found it in a folder marked WEDDING. If you want relaxed, romantic, funny, elegant, short or somewhere in the middle, say that first. The words and structure get easier from there.

RECEPTION

Structure Without Hostage Negotiations

A good run sheet gives the night shape without making every guest feel they have been assigned a timetable.

Keep speeches purposeful, let the kitchen do its job and leave enough room for conversation, photos and the bits nobody could have planned. A good MC knows when to move things forward and when to leave a great moment alone.
